Product Review: Cherrybrook Kitchen Gluten Free Yellow Cake Mix

T loves CHOCOLATE cake.  We’ve made the chocolate variety a few times, but on an impromptu shopping trip to Stop and Shop we happened to decide on the yellow cake variety.

Ingredients: White rice flour, evaporated cane juice, potato starch, granulated brown sugar, tapioca starch, natural vanilla flavor, leavening (non aluminated baking powder, sodium aluminum phosphate), calcium lactate (non dairy derivatives), xanthan gum, sea salt, calcium carbonate, citric acid, guar gum

Company Line: Here is the long-awaited Gluten Free Yellow Cake from Cherrybrook Kitchen. Delicious flavor and mouthpleasing texture will keep people asking for more.

T’s Review: This isn’t quite the same as a gluten based cake, but it’s close enough to be okay.  It’s not that it’s heavier, like so many gluten free products, it’s more of a texture issue.

D’s Review:  I have to agree.  The initial taste and density is a great match for yellow cake but there is just a grittiness after the initial bite.  Edible, but not something I’ll be wasting calories on.
