Life Without Six

Life without the "Top 6 Allergens" can be difficult. T offers recipes, product and restaurant reviews as well as shopping guides to take some of the bite out of grabbing a bite on a restrictive diet.

Shopping Guide: Fairway Market (Part 1)

FairwayMarket_LogoYou’ll notice throughout the blog that T and I mention a number of great stores where you can find allergy safe items.  We’ve done reviews for Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.  Fairway is another grocery store haven for the allergy conscious shopper.  It’s still more expensive (in general) than Trader Joe’s but easier on the wallet than Whole Foods.  Add that you aren’t as limited as with what products you’ll find on a day-to-day basis and Fairway is almost a Mecca for our grocery needs.  What’s the catch?  Live in the tri-state area?  If not… you aren’t going to find a Fairway Market near you… yet.

As we mentioned, you’ll be dealing with a grocery experience that is more expensive than your Pathmarks or ShopRites but you will be getting produce of a high quality and gourmet items the others simply don’t have.

Recently we’ve profiled some new items that we’ve recently discovered on their shelves like: Wholly Wholesome GF Pie Shells and SoyaToo Rice Whip.  Fairway is a market that will take some time to go through.  Unlike Whole Foods there aren’t the same handy shopping guides and each fairway has their own unique setup but like Trader Joe’s, if you are patient, you will find treasures.

Pay close attention in the Gluten Free, Frozen, Dairy, Dairy Alternative and Meats sections.  These are hotspots for finding hidden wonders that can brighten your cooking horizons.

If you have one in the area, check it out!
